Tifo display: Uruguay vs Venezuela
Two giant banners will be unfurled prior to the Uruguay vs Venezuela World Cup qualifying game in Montevideo later today. The banners will be displayed in the Amsterdam and Colombed stands of the Estadio Centenario.

Clausura 2012 - Round 2 Wrap-Up
Liverpool Futbol Club secured top spot after round 2 in the 2012 Clausura with a big 3-1 away win to River Plate on Saturday evening. Elias Figueroa had Liverpool 2-0 up by the 65th minute mark before Sebastian Taborda pulled one back for the home side from the penalty spot with twenty minutes to play. But Diego Vera scored his third of the season with six minutes left on the clock to secure Liverpool the three points.

Larrionda named second-best referee of 21st century
Former Uruguayan referee, Jorge Larrionda, has been named the second-best referee of the 21st century by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
The 43-year-old recently retired from refereeing after an illustrious career in which he officiated a total of 8 World Cup matches (4 in 2006 and 4 in 2010) as well as a number of Copa Libertadores games.

Nacional secure 2-1 triumph away to Vasco da Gama
Uruguayan champions Nacional got their 2012 Copa Libertadores campaign off to the perfect start with a historic 2-1 win away to Vasco da Game in Rio de Janiero.
In a match where the home side looked like the visitors and vice-versa, Nacional were unfortunate not to have won by a larger margin.
It was the first time Los Tricolores have won a game on Brazilian soil in the competition since 1971, the year they secured their first of three Libertadores crowns.

Defensor Sporting crash 3-0 to Velez Sarsfield
Defensor Sporting have suffered a 3-0 loss at home to Velez Sarsfield in their opening game of the 2012 Copa Libertadores.
Yonatan Irrazabal gifted the Argentinean side the opening goal of the game on 41 minutes when he picked up a backpass from Andres Fleurquin.

2012 Uruguayan Clausura fixtures released
The fixtures for the 2012 Uruguayan Clausura have been released, with a very interesting first round.
It all kicks off on Saturday 18 February where three games will take place, the first being Rampla Juniors against Defensor Sporting at the Estadio Olimpico.

Richard Porta blasts Diego Maradona
Richard "Kangaroo" Porta has revealed that Argentinean legend Diego Maradona drove him out of Al Wasl just three months after he joined the United Arab Emirates side on loan from Nacional.
Porta made eight appearances in his short stint at the club, scoring just the one goal.
The 28-year-old is back in Uruguay with the reigning champions but was left out of their squad for this years Copa Libertadores tournament.
