Richard Porta blasts Diego Maradona
Richard "Kangaroo" Porta has revealed that Argentinean legend Diego Maradona drove him out of Al Wasl just three months after he joined the United Arab Emirates side on loan from Nacional.
Porta made eight appearances in his short stint at the club, scoring just the one goal.
The 28-year-old is back in Uruguay with the reigning champions but was left out of their squad for this years Copa Libertadores tournament.
"Maradona told me that the directors made the decision, but when I spoke to them they told me that he no longer wanted me," Porta revealed.
"Before that he had allowed part of his coaching team to be fired. If you let people close to you be taken away, what authority do you have to ask for a player to stay?"
The Australian-born striker also criticized the managers training methods.
"There was a lot of work done on the physical side and on the pitch hardly anything. He relied on what us foreigners could already do,"
"We always had to score a goal more than they did to us."
